Each semester, ReUSE traditionally hosts two signature events (the reader giveaway, and clothing sale). Every once in awhile, ReUSE takes on other projects and events. ReUSE occasionally helps UC buildings that are closing down, find homes for all the unwanted furniture that would normally be thrown into the dump.

Reader Give Away
Every semester, thousands of new readers are printed and bought by students. At the end of each semester, all these perfectly good readers become obsolete and are thrown away or recycled. But so many of them are still useful, since many professors don’t change their readings from semester to semester. How can you get your old readers to students taking the classes next year?
Reader Give Away!
At the end of every school year in May, ReUSE places large blue toters out around the bases of most dorm buildings. We call these our reader/notebook toters. These are massive drop boxes for old readers and for class notebooks with usable paper still in them.
Then, the following year, ReUSE holds our Reader/Notebook Give Away in conjunction with the ASUC Bookswap. The Reader/Notebook Give Away is during the first week of classes and is usually held in MLK or Lower Sproul. Stop by and pick up some free readers or notebooks. The Give Away is at the beginning of every semester.
So come stop by MLK and pick up some free readers the first week of class! Or, in May, don’t toss your old readers, bring them to the dorms and drop them off for students next year.
Come to ReUSE’s yearly Second Chance Clothing Sale! We collect clothing and other unwanted reusables every May from students moving out of the dorms. Then we sell them back to the campus community at incredibly cheap prices, and any proceeds help run the ReUSE program.
So come stop by! The Second Chance Clothing Sale is held early during fall semester. Dates will be posted as the sale gets closer.
Extra clothing is donated to Goodwill, Out of the Closet and homeless shelters after the sale.
Special Event: DHS Furniture Giveaway
When the Department of Health Services building closed in preparation for demolition in the 2009 – 2010 school year, ReUSE organized a free furniture give away to save hundreds of usable desks and office furniture from the landfill.
